Brenham Junior High Facility Assessments
Section Title
In December 2019 Brenham ISD contracted with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) to conduct a facility assessment of the Brenham Junior High Campus. TASB was charged with assessing the overall site of the facility, the building systems and components, the educational adequacy of the facility, and the safety and security of the facility. Following their evaluation of the facility, TASB conducted a presentation of their findings to the Brenham ISD Board of Trustees at a board meeting held on February 3, 2020. Due to a change in District leadership and the interruption caused by COVID, TASB representatives were asked to come back on January 19, 2021 and give the presentation of the findings again. The presentation slide deck detailing the results of the TASB facility assessment can be found at the following link:
In August of 2021, and as part of the BISD Bond Planning Committee process, the district contracted with Lockwood, Andrews, & Newnan, INC. (LAN) to conduct a district-wide facility needs assessment. LAN was instructed to focus their efforts on identifying the remaining life of facilities or facility systems, assess the condition of existing elements, and develop improvement plans with rough order of magnitude cost estimates, if necessary. The resulting report can be found at the following link:
Also in October of 2021, the District contracted with Gessner Engineering LLC to conduct a general visual observation review of the areas of concern at the Brenham Junior High facility. The areas of concern to be observed included the auditorium, gymnasium, and main floor corridor. The resulting report can be found at the following link:
As a follow-up to the Gessner Engineering October 2021 report, a more detailed assessment of the Brenham Junior High facility was conducted in July 2022 to ensure the structure of the building was safe for students and staff to occupy. The results were reported in September of 2022 and a presentation was done for the Brenham ISD Board of Trustees on October 17th, 2022. For this assessment, Gessner Engineering was charged with collecting additional data surrounding the areas of concern identified in the original report. This assessment was conducted from two methodologies, first, Gessner Engineering conducted a Light Detecting and Ranging (LiDAR) scan of the gymnasium and auditorium spaces. Second, Gessner subcontracted with Apollo BBC, INC. to conduct a visual assessment of the Brenham Junior HIgh facility envelope. Apollo conducted observations of the existing condition of the exterior of the building, including the walls, roof systems, and drainage systems. The resulting report can be found at the following link:
As a result of the second Gessner Engineering report that included the Apollo BBC, INC. assessment, BISD engaged with Parson Roofing to conduct an assessment of the condition of the Brenham Junior High facility roof. The resulting report can be found at the following link:
Additionally, as a result of the Gessner Engineering and Apollo BBC, INC. assessment, BISD worked with a local plumber to conduct a condition assessment of the drainage system at the Brenham Junior High Facility. The results of the assessment can be found at the following link:
